Next, the services to be offered. It is important to differentiate your services from the competition. Establish yourself as a leader and establish who is the best person to provide your services. If you are going to compete against a larger company then you should put forth the best product to attract new customers.

A small business marketing plan must include an analysis of what your products or services will look like. There are lots of free software programs that will give you a complete cost analysis. Then you can decide what you are going to do and how to do it.

For example, if you don’t have a website, then you might consider creating one for your business or your new line of business. Use social media sites to advertise and promote your services. Remember that with every interaction you make on the social media sites, you will be building up a customer base and strengthening the relationships that will make it easier to sell to them in the future.

One of the major things to focus on is your distribution. Don’t focus on making sure that you have a location, but concentrate on creating a network. Ask your family and friends about their choices and see what they like and don’t like.

Team building is key. If you are working on getting your distribution network together, be sure to take a good look at your team. Ask each of your team members to pick a service that they feel they can excel at and start building a team around that service.

Many big companies create a sales force that works in another country and not really understands the culture or business. This could be a major problem. All too often the sales force is so far removed from the company that they don’t have a clue what is expected.

Of course the employees at a small business are also a part of the overall plan. Every employee needs to be aware of the current market trends and the products and services that will be offered. This knowledge will allow them to market effectively and get more business for your company.

One of the greatest marketing ideas I have ever heard comes from Jack Dorsey of Twitter. He said that to do well in marketing, you should go to every country in the world, no matter what language you speak, and figure out how to sell the product. He does this because it will take time to know how to market in every country, but if he works with a local distributor in that country, then the more successful he is with them.

Many times a company will get into something for a long time and think that they have mastered the art of marketing that product. Once they begin to lose customers because they can’t keep up with the changing market trends, they will stop marketing and lose all of their money. This happens to a lot of companies, but so does slow growth.

So, small business marketing is important and requires some attention to detail. A small business can’t afford to waste time or money on marketing that won’t be effective in the long run. An effective marketing plan that focuses on all of the aspects of the company will be more successful.
